CENTREVILLE — The Centreville Academy Lady Tigers are no longer undefeated in MPSA District 5-AA after a tough 6-5 loss to the Bowling Green School Lady Buccaneers Tuesday night.
The game went to the international tiebreaker in the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, Crowe (no first name given) started at second base and scored on a single to give Bowling Green the lead.
Centreville (13-5, 4-1) had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the sixth. Emily Vine started at second and was sacrificed to third by Amber Addington. Amber Brown got on with a bunt single and stole second to put runners in scoring position with one out. However, the next two batters for the Lady Tigers were unable to get a hit and the Lady Buccaneers held on for the win.
“A base hit would’ve won it and we didn’t get a hit,” Centreville head coach Mark Mann said. “When we had runners in scoring position, we couldn’t get the key hit. That’s been an Achilles heel most of the season.”
Bowling Green had just four hits in the game off Centreville pitcher Emily Gaulden, but one of them was a key two-run double by Courtney Travis in the top of the third inning that broke a 2-2 tie.
Erin Gaulden led the Lady Tigers by going 2-for-3 with a double and Brown was 2-for-4.
Centreville will next play at the Co-Lin Classic at the Brookhaven Complex on Saturday.
