TYLERTOWN — Despite turning the ball over just one time, the Cathedral Green Wave tried to play catch up in the second half, but their rally fell a bit short as they lost to the Dexter Bulldogs 21-13 Friday night in the Region 4-1A opener for both teams.
Dexter (1-0, 1-0) scored 13 points in the second quarter to take what appeared to be a commanding 21-0 halftime lead. But Cathedral got back in the game with 13 points in the third quarter. However, the Green Wave could not keep the momentum going in the fourth quarter.
“We came out slow. We had injuries in the first half,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “We played well in the second half. We had a chance but couldn’t convert on the 4-yard line.”
Preston Edwards completed 19 of 36 passes for 194 and ran for two touchdowns, but Cathedral’s inability to run the ball proved to be a key factor in the game. The Green Wave was held to just 17 yards on the ground.
Daniel Jenkins and Braxton Fondren combined for 13 catches for 156 yards to lead Cathedral (0-1, 0-1) in receiving.
