Huntington shuts out WCCA; Centreville falls

WOODVILLE — Jody Cottongin and Martez Tolliver combined for 382 rushing yards and three touchdowns as the Huntington Hounds defeated the WCCA Rams 38-0 Friday night in the District 6-A opener for both teams.
Cottongin, who had just 51 yards rushing against Central Private, had his second straight big performance against WCCA as he finished with 20 carries for 217 yards and two touchdowns.
Tolliver had 16 carries for 165 yards and one rushing touchdown. He added two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns in a span of less than a minute early in the fourth quarter.
Huntington (1-1, 1-0), ranked No. 2 in Class A, racked up 371 yards of total offense, all on the ground. WCCA (1-1, 0-1) was held to 126 yards of total offense and turned the ball over four times. Cody Cullen was picked off three times and completed just six of 21 passes.
Parklane 19, Centreville 14
MCCOMB — Parklane sophomore quarterback Chase Schmidt threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns and his 23-yard touchdown run with 8:24 remaining in the game gave the Pioneers a much-needed win.
Centreville (1-1), ranked No. 2 in Class AA, was led by Nick Goudeau, who had 35 carries for 246 yards.
However, he was kept out of the end zone. Zach Sinclair scored both of the Tigers’ touchdowns on a pair of short runs.
However, Centreville’s pass defense gave up a big play early as Schmidt connected with Josh Armstreet on a 60-yard touchdown pass with 2:38 to go in the first quarter.
The Tigers got down to the Pioneers’ 10-yard line as time was running out, but couldn’t get the ball in the end zone.
Tensas Academy 42, Franklin Academy 13
ST. JOSEPH, La. — The Chiefs defeated the Cougars to go to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in District 6-A action, giving first-year head Joe Coats his first win at Tensas. No other information was available.
