NATCHEZ — The Adams County Christian School football team has not had the season it had hoped and prepared for all summer.
The Rebels have just one win this season, and failed to make the postseason. But, tonight’s game against Columbia Academy is still an important one for the team and head coach Hunter McKeivier, he said.
“A win would give the older guys a sense of finishing out on top, even though the season didn’t go as planned,” McKeivier said. “And it would be a step on the step ladder for next year for the younger ones.”
Tonight’s match up will be a battle for third place in MAIS District 5-AA, as the Cougars and the Rebels both come into the game at 0-2 in the district.
McKeivier said Columbia Academy’s quarterback does much of the work on the ground for the Cougars offense.
“They will pass in long situations and when you stack the box against them,” McKeivier said. “That’s what we will try to do — stack it up to stop the quarterback.”
McKeivier said his offense would have to show improvement for the Rebels to win.
“We have got to play better offensively,” he said. “The offensive line and running backs have to know their assignments and block them. We haven’t done that, we are always missing one person, and that’s been the difference.”
McKeivier said tonight’s game would be special for him and his seven seniors.
“For me every year with the seniors is emotional,” he said. “Coming out for the last time will be tough. It will be an emotional game, and they are going to put everything on the line. They know what’s at stake, and they want to end up on top.”
Columbia (2-8. 0-2) and ACCS (1-9, 0-2) will kick off at 7 p.m. today.
