BAKER, La. — The Centreville Lady Tigers had already clinched a spot in the MPSA Class AA South State Tournament by being one of the top three teams in District 5-AA.
After Tuesday afternoon’s 10-0 win over the Central Private Lady Rebels, the Lady Tigers have much more important things on their mind — winning the district championship and securing the district’s No. 1 seed at AA South State.
“CP’s young. They had a lot of seniors last year. They had some kids transfer out of school and that hurt them,” Centreville head coach Mark Mann said. “But they gave a good effort. They’re just real young and inexperienced.”
The Lady Tigers took control of the game by scoring five runs in the top of the first inning and scoring in all but one of the five innings played.
“We put the ball in play and they made mistakes,” Mann said. “Our girls played up to their potential and took care of business so we can play for the district title.
Centreville (22-7, 8-1) hits the road to Franklinton, La., to take on Bowling Green School Thursday afternoon with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.
Bowling Green was at 6-2 in district play going into Tuesday afternoon’s game against Oak Forest Tuesday. If the Lady Buccaneers win that game, Centreville will have to win to clinch the district championship.
