NATCHEZ — Over 500 amateur tennis players from around the state traveled to Natchez this weekend for the United States Tennis Association’s Mississippi State Mix-Doubles Tournament.
“This is a great tournament for Natchez,” Director of tennis for the City of Natchez Henry Harris said. “Counting players and families, there are probably around 700 people that come in here. It’s great for the town’s economy during a slow time.”
Harris said that Natchez has hosted this tournament on and off through the years.
“This is the second largest USTA state tournament in Mississippi,” Harris said. “It’s second only to Jackson.”
The tournament was split between five sites with Duncan Park being the main site. The other sites were at Vidalia High School and Junior High School, Natchez Youth Courts and Trinity Episcopal School.
The tournament continues through today with the semi-finals starting at 8 a.m. and the finals set to start at 12:30 p.m.
