Not too late to play celebrity golf

The Miss-Lou Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will host the Joe Fortunato Celebrity Golf Classic this Saturday at the Duncan Park Golf Course.
The tournament will be a four-man scramble with tee times at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The entry fee is $100 per player, which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner for golfers and spouses and goodie bags for each golfer.
There will also be prizes for each flight, longest drive and closest to the pin. You will also have a chance to win an automobile and other great prizes if you can score a hole-in-one on any of the selected par 3s on the course.
Mulligans will be available for purchase as well as hole sponsorships. Range balls will be provided to all players.
The event will culminate with dinner and door prizes.
Two former Ole Miss football greats, Allen Brown — also of the Green Bay Packers — and Red Owens will lead the tournament cooking team in preparing delicious meals for all participants. I can guarantee you that no golfer in this tournament will go home hungry.
There will also be plenty of ice cold beverages available for all players.
Former Mississippi State and Chicago Bear linebacker Joe Fortunato, for whom the tournament is named, will be on hand as well.
Back in February, our chapter had its 29th annual banquet. We awarded $10,000 in scholarships to seven very deserving high school seniors who excelled both on the field of play and in the classroom.
All proceeds from this tournament will be used to fund future scholarships.
This is our only fundraiser.
For years, you golfers and local businesses have responded and participated in this event.
For that, we thank you.
Your participation and support has enabled us to give thousands of dollars in scholarships to these kids who will truly be the leaders of tomorrow.
I would again like to take this opportunity to invite golfers of all skills to take part in the Joe Fortunato Celebrity Golf Tournament Saturday at Duncan Park.
We still have plenty of room for golfers who have not yet registered.
For registration information, please call me at 601-597-6273 or call 601-442-3903 and leave a message.
I know you will find this to be a great tournament for a great cause.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Walt Brown is the president of the Miss-Lou Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
