NATCHEZ — Cathedral travels to Vicksburg tonight to take on rival St. Aloysius Flashes at 7.
The Green Wave are coming off a tough 26-24 loss to Pelahatchie last week.
“We didn’t play with any intensity last week,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “We worked on getting our confidence back this week.”
Beesley said he stressed to his players football was just has much mental as physical.
Like Pelahatchie, St. Aloysius runs a ground attack offense.
“We missed tackles last week,” Beesley said. “St. Aloysius runs tackle to tackle. We have to stop them to win.”
Beesley said they would do whatever they could to stop the run.
The Green Wave gave up 311 yards on the ground to Pelahatchie.
But the defense wasn’t the only aspect Cathedral had to work on this week.
“We did a lot of work with the offense this week,” Beesley said. “Our passing game wasn’t there last week and we need that to win.”
Cathedral completed only six passes for 79 yards last week but was able to get their running game going in the second half rushing for 117 yards.
“Rushing the ball isn’t a big part of our offense,” Beesley said. “But it might be something we do a little more earlier in the game.”
With 1-2 records, this is must win for both teams.
Beesley said he expected another good, close game in this rivalry.
“We’ve had a good week of practice,” Beesley said. “It has been the best so far this season. We are going to Vicksburg with intensity and hopefully we can come out on top.”
