With temperatures dipping slightly, football in full swing and balloon race on the horizon, this time of year is a busy one in the Miss-Lou.

Area residents abandon the TV for outdoor events and our city streets stay full with local festivals.

It’s a great time to live in the area, so let’s review some of the good news last week brought to us.

4After what seems like a lifetime, the construction at Liberty Road and Seargent S. Prentiss is nearly through. It’s 90 percent complete, to be exact.

Traffic is flowing the way it will permanently and only the finishing touches remain. One of those last minute details will be an elaborate landscaping project designed by the state to be a wonderful welcome into our city. The exit from the Natchez Trace will become the entrance to town we’ve always needed.

Drivers will be relieved to see the orange cones disappear in the next month, but on a grander scope, our city will certainly be pleased with the finished product.

4Attendance at the annual Bark in the Park — a fundraiser for the Natchez-Adams Humane Society — was the highest ever, approximately 300 two-legged creatures, plus their smaller friends.

The pups strutted their stuff for a variety of contests, and their owners forked over the dough as a contribution to the shelter. The humane society receives limited funding, but plenty of animals, and it’s great to see the community turn out for an event like this.

As fall gets under way and the tree leaves put on a show, we are certain the good news will keep coming.
