vidalia — Homecoming couldn’t have been any sweeter.
The Vidalia Vikings (3-2) defeated the Jena Giants (2-3) 32-6 Friday night in Vidalia, under the watchful eye of reporters from New York covering the Jena Six.
Vidalia came out strong with a 3-yard run by Jeremy Randall with 9:18 to go in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead.
Vidalia then scored with 1:29 to go in the first quarter on a Brandon Hawkins pass to Kevin Johnson to go up 12-0.
Jena would put up their only points with 3:29 to go in the secondquarter on a touchdown run by Eric Bowens.
With 3:29 to go in the third quarter, Kwan Reynolds picked up a Jena fumble to score a touchdown.
Vidalia wouldn’t look back after that.
Kevin Johnson scored a touchdown with 38 seconds to go in the third quarter to put the Vikings up 24-6.
With 11:04 to go in the fourth quarter, Jeremy Randall ran in the last Viking scored on an 8-yard run.
They also succeeded on the two-point conversion.
For the Vikings, Jeremy Randall put up 221 yards rushing with two touchdowns to compliment the effort.
“Our offensive line stepped up and the fullback blocked 130 percent,” Randall said.
“It was a great team effort, the whole team did a great job,” Vidalia coach Dee Faircloth said.
This was the first game of the season in which the Vikings did not fumble.
“Vidalia just came out and whooped our butt,” Jena head coach Bernie Cooley said.
The Vikings will face Bunkie on the road next week.
