NATCHEZ — Two men were shot in unrelated incidents, one late Friday night and another early Saturday morning.
At roughly 10:35 p.m. Friday, police received a call that there was a shooting at 907 1/2 State St. in Natchez.
A resident, Jason Cox, and his neighbor, Thomas Foresman, 50, 907 State St., were socializing and got into an argument, Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
“The suspect picked up a 20-gauge shotgun and pointed it at the victim,” Mullins said. “The victim said he ran out of the house and into his house. As he got into the doorway, the suspect fired one time, and some pellets struck the victim in the right arm.”
When police responded to the scene, they could not find Foresman.
“We located him and arrested him at 8 this morning at his residence and recovered a 20-gauge shotgun,” Mullins said.
Foresman was being held at the city jail on charges of aggravated assault. No bond will be set until arraignment.
Cox was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for further medical evaluation.
UMC confirmed Cox was in their hospital Saturday evening but did not release information about his status.
In a separate incident, at roughly 3:20 a.m. Saturday, police received a call of shots fired at 123B Ram Circle.
A resident, Anthony Owens, 42, had been shot, Mullins said.
Owens and alleged shooter Rahmyl Oshay Ringo, 33, 19B Ingram Circle, got into an argument, Mullins said.
“They had an altercation several weeks ago, the victim stated,” Mullins said. “He advised they began to fight. The victim said he threw a trash can at the suspect.”
Owens said Ringo then left and came back with a handgun and shot Owens in the left thigh, Mullins said.
Police have not recovered the handgun.
“Patrolmen arrested the suspect a few minutes later several blocks away on foot,” Mullins said.
Ringo was charged with aggravated assault and was being held at the city jail Saturday without bond until his arraignment.
Owens was transported to UMC. Owens said Saturday he would have to have surgery on his leg.
“And they’re keeping me in the hospital for a couple days to make sure I’ve got no internal bleeding,” Owens said.
Owens said he and Ringo had long been friends and the disagreement saddened him.
“I hate to see a good brother go to jail for something stupid he did,” Owens said.
