CLINTON — The Centreville Academy Lady Tigers were eliminated from the 2007 Overall Fast Pitch Tournament Saturday morning with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Bayou Academy Lady Colts.
Bayou Academy, winners of back-to-back Class A North State and State Championships, won the game when Emily Gaulden walked a batter with the bases loaded to bring in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Centreville, the runner-up in Class AA, finished with a 31-11 record. Bayou Academy, advanced in the tournament to take on the loser of the Hillcrest Christian-Jackson Prep game.
After losing to Class AAA runner-up Hillcrest Christian in the first game of the tournament 6-0 last Wednesday morning, the Lady Tigers avenged a couple of tough losses to Marshall Academy in the Class AA State Tournament with a 5-3 win that afternoon to knock the Lady Patriots out of the tournament.
“It was bittersweet revenge for us,” Centreville head coach Mark Mann said.
Emily Gaulden, who pitched all three games for Centreville at Overall, limited Marshall to just four hits and she went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Centreville seniors Amber Addington (shortstop), Amber Brown (second base), Emily Gaulden (pitcher) and Erin Gaulden (catcher) made the MPSA District 5-AA All-District Team and the All-State Tournament Team.
