NATCHEZ — This weekend will offer events to please all ears, paws and feet in the Miss-Lou.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Walk registration for the second annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s opens at 8 a.m. Saturday at the gazebo on the bluff and ends around noon.

Pam Frank, walk organizer, said approximately three downtown blocks will be designated for the walk.

The Alzheimer’s Association uses money raised by the walk to promote awareness and education in Mississippi.

Information and literature about Alzheimer’s disease will be available at the walk.

Fifty-three individuals have already registered to walk, and Frank said she expects more will sign up on the website before then, and also show up the day of.

Natchez Cat Show

The first Allbreed Championship and Household Pet Cat Show to Natchez will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Natchez Community Center on Franklin Street.

The show will end around 4:30 p.m., with judging ongoing throughout the day.

Signups have already closed, and 114 cats from across the U.S. are primping for the show this week.

Show manager Jo Parris said spectators are in for a treat, as they will be exposed to dozens of rare breeds, including Siberians, pixie bobs, savannahs, munchkins, Persians, Himalayans, Siamese, Bengals, Maine coon, rag dolls and more.

The show is organized with a bench area where spectators can approach exhibitors, meet the cats and ask questions.

Cats are assigned a number and judged in each of five rings by the breed’s standard of perfection.

Winning cats will first be narrowed down according to breed, and then the best of the best kittens and cats will be announced.

“It’s like Miss America,” Parris said.

A vendor will have a variety of cat items for sale, Parris said. Everything from cat trees, grooming supplies, toys and beds.

Parris said the Humane Society will have cats available for adoption.

Cat registration forms can be picked up at the show, for anyone who might like to show their cat in the future.

Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $1 for children under 12. An adult must accompany children.

Bluffs n’ Bayous Music Fest

A music festival bringing a diverse variety of acts to the Vidalia Amphitheatre will begin at noon Saturday. The festival is free to the public.

Bucky Covington, of American Idol fame, will headline the show. The longhaired North Carolinian with the rocker’s charisma and the country boy charm thrills old and new fans alike.

Hannah Belle Southerland, a Red Lick resident, will also take the stage, singing her brand of inspirational country music.

“I’m a country music artist trying to do the will of God through my music,” she said on her fan website.

Other acts include High Road, The Sensational Harris Brothers, Crossing Over, Juhah Seed, the Highland Praise Band and more.
