NATCHEZ — The Silliman Wildcats did a good job of keeping Trinity Episcopal’s running game in check for the most part, but their own offense couldn’t do anything as the Saints remained undefeated with a 41-0 win Friday night.

Trinity Episcopal, 8-0 and ranked No. 2 in Class AA in one statewide poll and No. 7 in the latest private school poll, forced five turnovers, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

Langdon Morrison picked up a fumble at the 2-yard line after the snap went over the head of Silliman’s punter and he ran it in for a touchdown that gave the Saints a 21-0 lead with 2:11 remaining in the first quarter.

Jordan Vance picked off a pass and returned it 31 yards to cap off the scoring with 7:26 to go in the ball game.

Even though the Saints were held to 112 total rushing yards, they did score three touchdowns on the ground. Brandon Daggs had two of them on runs of 3 and 6 yards and R.J Fleming ran in from two yards out. Parker Brumfield, who threw for 182 yards on 11-of-18 passing, had an 18-yard touchdown pass to Clint Easom late in the first quarter.

Defensively, Vance wound up with two interceptions and Brumfield picked off a pass as well. Andrew Johnson recovered a fumble and Trinity’s defense held Silliman (3-4) to just 64 yards of total offense.

Huntington 47, Tallulah Academy 7

FERRIDAY — Josh Lee, Jody Cottongin and Martez Tolliver combined for 322 yards and six of the team’s seven touchdowns as the Hounds defeated the Trojans Friday night to remain undefeated in MPSA District 6-A.

Lee led the way with 15 carries for 120 yards and two touchdown, two two-point conversion runs and on extra point. Cottongin had 10 carries for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Tolliver had six carries for 85 yards and one touchdown.

“The offensive line did a good job blocking and the backs ran hard,” Huntington head coach Chad Harkins said. “We keep it simple, run clock and get out without any injuries.”

Tallulah Academy (0-8, 0-7) got most of its 162 total yards in the fourth quarter. The Trojans scored on a 1-yard run by Cason Landrem with 1:28 to go.

“We got some of the young guys in there to play,” Harkins said.

Huntington, ranked No. 2 in Class A, improved to 6-2 overall and 6-0 in District 6-A. The Hounds will host Glenbrook in an important district game for both teams.

WCCA 14, Riverdale Academy 7

WOODVILLE — Cody Cullen’s 48-yard touchdown pass to Todd Gonda late in the third quarter gave the Rams the lead and George Davis’ interception late in the fourth quarter preserved the win Friday night.

In a key MPSA District 6-A match-up for both teams, it was WCCA that made the most plays and kept its slim playoff chances alive. The Rams improved to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in district play. They still need to win at Cenla Christian Academy next Friday night and have some help to get one of the two wild-card playoff spots.

It appeared that Riverdale (3-4, 3-3) would end up doing the same. The Rebels were able to move the ball into Rams territory, but Davis intercepted a Kevin Coleman pass that ended the attempted comeback.

WCCA’s defense came through in the first quarter when Trumaine Norwood intercepted a Coleman pass and returned in 37 yards for a touchdown to give the Rams a 7-0 lead. Riverdale tied the game early in the third quarter on a 12-yard pass from Coleman to Jay Perkins.

Centreville Academy 36, Amite School Center 13

CENTREVILLE — Beau Field had 115 total yards from scrimmage on offense and picked off a pass while Nick Goudeau had another solid game as the Tigers defeated the Rebels Friday night at homecoming.

The win set up a showdown next Friday night between Centreville, 7-1 overall and ranked No. 5 in Class AA and Oak Forest Academy in Amite, La., ranked No. 4 in Class AA, for the MPSA District 5-AA championship. Both teams will take 4-0 records in district play into that game.

Field had nine carries for 96 yards and one touchdown to go with one catch for 19 yards. Goudeau led the Tigers’ running attack with 135 yards and two touchdowns on only four carries. Zach Sinclair had just one carry, but it went for 61 yards and a touchdown.

With Centreville playing its younger players in the second half, Amite School Center (0-8, 0-4) scored both of its touchdowns in the second half.

Tensas Academy 42, Claiborne Aca. 26

ST. JOSEPH, La. — The Chiefs celebrated Senior Night with a big win over the Rebels to continue to stay with Huntington and Glenbrook in the District 6-A standings. Tensas Academy improved to 5-3 overall and 5-1 in district play. No statistics on the game were available.
