Cooper takes Oct. 6 event

The Borderline Bass Anglers held their last 2007 fishing year event Oct. 6. Sixteen anglers picked personal lake choices and weighed at 2 p.m. under 92 degree, humid skies.

Winner David Cooper of Vidalia had one of the few five fish limits for a 12 pound easy victory fishing Deer Park. The stringer was anchored by a 3.70 big bass of the day. Donny Chapman grabbed second on Four Rivers with five for 7.60 while third was Scott Smith on Lake Bruin with three for 4.50.

Others with fish were: Carrol Ray Huff on Lake St. John (three for 5.90), Joey Chapman (three for 5.70), Barry Chapman (five for 5.20), Wayne Doolittle (three for 3.55), Rick Gillespie (three for 3.30), Bobby Hall and Phillip Harper (three for 3.05), Cliff Persick (three for 2.90), Bill Murray (three for 2.50), Clifton Chapman (1.30) and Bob Holland (.80).

Also casting on BRL was Doug Schexnayder.

BOYKIN WINS DBC

The Dixie Bass Club of Natchez held its second fishing year event Oct. 6 on a 78 degree Black River Lake at Monterey. The 17 anglers plus two guests fished hard to weigh 73 smallish bass with 12 limits and three zips.

The lake area air reached a humid 92 by weigh-in under a sunny sky when most bass were fooled by spinnerbaits or plastics.

Jerry Boykin won easily with a five bass limit of 9.49 pounds plus the 3.35 lunker. Alan Brumfield landed an 8.04 limit as runnerup; third was Johnny Davis with a 7.92 limit; John “Team Go-Mart” Bruce (five for 7.87) took fourth and fifth was Scott Emfinger (five for 7.65).

Others with fish were: Terrell Foster (five for 7.62); Robbie Buckles (five for 7.49, qb 3.33); Buster Martinez (five for 7.26); guest Stan Wyant (five for 6.80); Albert Crouch (five for 6.03); Ken Mahoney (five for 5.89); Glen Foster (five for 5.75); Allen Blanton (four for 5.16); Greg Green (four for 4.19); Randy Pitre (three for 3.47) and Paul Foster (two for 2.58).

Also fishing were Heather Crouch, Ken McKnight and Doug Schexnayder. The next DBC event is the Annual Top Ten Shootout on Black River Lake involving six clubs from two states October 13.

DIXIE WINS TOP TEN TITLE 2007

The Dixie Bass Club won the 2007 Top Ten Shootout October 13 on the Black River Lake Complex at Monterey. Natchez-based Team Dixie easily beat five other clubs with 66.40 pounds despite the foggy bluebird. Team Dixie was led by the boats of Randy Pitre-Johnny Davis with 19.08 in the main lake late and Glen & Paul Foster with 15.14 pounds. Vidalia-based Team Concordia was runner-up with 59.34 led by the boats of Ken McKnight-Grady Boykin (18.05) and Danny “Team Triton” Smith with 16 pounds.

Third was Natchez-based Team River City with 57.35 led by the boats of Clifton Merritt-Jay Hamilton (18.10) and Doug Jordan-Jimmy Hodges (15.14). Team Borderline was fourth with 48.43 and led by the boats of Bob Holland-Wayne Dolittle (14.06) and Carrol Ray Huff-Mike Essary (11.07). Team Brookhaven placed fifth at 38.29 pounds led by the boats of Jeff Greenlee-Chip Gennaro (18.03) and Butch Copeland-Gary Norton Jr. with 6.08. Sixth place was Team Kingfisherman with 30.43 led by the boats of DeWitt Wyatt-Francis Ransom (8.09) and James Payne-Jimmy Sheppard (8.06). The lunker of the day was 5.02 by Doug Jordan on a jig in the main lake.
