TWENTY YEARS AGO — Alex King has 11 carries for 76 yards and three touchdown and Patrick Jackson had 13 carries for 150 yards and one touchdown as the Thompson Cougars upset the Thompson Jaguars 24-0 in a homecoming game for both teams to win the city championship.

TEN YEARS AGO — The Cleveland Indians get just three hits off starter Mike Mussina and two relievers, but the third turns out to be the biggest as last-minute starter Tony Fernandez’s solo home run in the 11th inning gives them a 1-0 win over Baltimore to advance to the World Series.

FIVE YEARS AGO — On the 13th try, Natchez High’s slow pitch softball program is finally advancing to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs after taking the third game of the best-of-three series in impressive fashion as the Lady Bulldogs defeat Long Beach 15-5 in six innings.
