NATCHEZ — The 8-0 Trinity Saints aren’t getting overconfident going into Friday’s against the River Oaks Mustangs.

“River Oaks is a quality team,” Trinity head coach David King said. “Those kids know how to win. They are one of the toughest teams we’ll face.”

King said he was disappointed in his team’s performance against Silliman.

“We didn’t play well in the first half,” King said. “I feel better this week than I did last week.”

The Trinity offense fumbled five times but was fortunate enough only to lose two.

“We’ve had this game circled all season,” King said. “We had a good week of practice and will be ready for River Oaks.”

One point of concern for King is River Oaks one-two punch at running back. Sophomore Jamar Owens and senior Zach Scogin have combined for over 1300 yards rushing.

“They are quality backs,” King said. “They run a double wing offense very effectively.”

King said his defense would focus on stopping the run and keeping the running backs contained.

“There has been talk that this would be the team to put up two or three touchdowns on us,” King said. “The defense is up for that challenge. They tend to step it up and get more focused for big games.”

The Saints’ defense forced five turnovers against Silliman. They are holding teams to just a touchdown for the season.

“River Oaks is coached very well by Robert Hannah,” King said. “They will have a good plan ready. This should be an old fashion great football game.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
