fayette — Jefferson County had its worst loss of the season last week in the 66-26 loss to Lawrence County.

“That loss was my fault,” Jefferson County head coach James Herrington said. “I did a poor job getting them ready. I promised the team I wouldn’t make that mistake again.”

The Tigers welcome a struggling 2-6 North Pike team this Friday at 7 p.m.

The Jaguars are coming off a 32-18 win against Wilkinson County.

“North Pike is a scrappy ball club,” Herrington said. “They are improving every game.”

Thirty-two points was a season high for North Pike.

“They are big up front,” Herrington said. “They have three good backs that run very well.”

Herrington said North Pike spreads the offense out and use their quarterback Revis Butler and running backs Kerion Robinson and LaDerrick Turner to run the ball.

“The things we have to work are making better reads and sound tackling,” Herrington said. “We got out of our routine last week. It won’t happen this week.”

Jefferson County’s offense is led by stand out quarterback Percy Turner. The Tigers average near 30 points per game.

“We have to get back to what got us here,” Herrington said. “We have to stay balanced and see what North Pike gives us. Then see what works.”

Herrington said North Pike didn’t have much speed on corners but they were big up front and their linebackers were quick.
