BOGUE CHITTO — The Cathedral Green Wave offense continues to wash over its competition, with the latest victim being Bogue Chitto.

The Bobcats, which entered Friday’s contest ranked No. 2 in MHSAA Class 1A by The Clarion-Ledger, played host to the No. 1 Green Wave. And the Green Wave remained undefeated to the tune of 61-28.

Cathedral head coach Ron Rushing said his team was able to take advantage early to secure the big win on the road.

“The boys played extremely well from the start of the game to the finish,” Rushing said.

“They had a couple of turnovers early, and we capitalized. Defensively, we played up and down, but overall I was extremely pleased.”

Daniel Huffines caught a 21-yard pass from quarterback Caleb Upton for Cathedral’s first score with 10:29 in the first. Carl Hammitte added a 29-yard touchdown reception with 8:03.

Bogue Chitto got on the board with 7:21 left in the first when Jeremy Martin caught a 52-yard pass from quarterback Brock Roberts. But Khalil Brice struck back on the ensuing Cathedral possession, scoring on a 29-yard pass from Upton with 6:17 remaining.

Tyler Flemming later had an 18-yard touchdown pass from Upton, and Jadarius Ealey scored on a 17-yard reception at the end of the first.

Ealey scored again with 7:34 remaining in the second on a 4-yard carry. Martin scored for Bogue Chitto on a 9-yard pass from Roberts to make it 40-14 at the half.

In the third quarter, Daniel Huffines caught his second touchdown of the night on a 12-yard reception with 10:25 to go in the third. Colter McClendon scored for Bogue Chitto on a 17 pass with 3:57 left in the third.

Ishmael Blackmon took the ensuing kickoff back for a 73-yard touchdown return with 3:43 left in the third. McClendon scored again for Bogue Chitto on a 9-yard run.

Ealey scored his last touchdown of the night on a 1-yard carry with 10 minutes left in the fourth.

Cathedral finished with 98 rushing yards, with Ealey tallying 56 of those on 11 carries. Brice had 35 yards on one carry.

Upton was 24-for-36 in passing with 357 yards and six touchdown passes. Huffines led the Green Wave in receiving with 104 yards on six catches. Tyler Flemming had 86 yards on seven catches with one touchdown, and Brice caught six passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Rodney Hall had three tackles, five assists and one sack, and Matthew Rymer had four tackles, six assists and one interception. Ealey, Flemming and Christian Jenkins all had fumble recoveries for the Green Wave.

“We talked about how good they were offensively, and that they would score some points,” Rushing said. “We emphasized getting one or two turnovers to swing the game, and luckily we got some early to put the game away.”

Cathedral (8-0) will host Dexter High School Friday.
