AMITE, La. — Trinity Episcopal head coach David King said he wanted his players to get back to playing Trinity-type football.

And after a 26-6 win on the road against a good Oak Forest team, King said he was glad to see how his team responded to his challenge.

“I thought we were outstanding tonight,” King said. “I thought the kids played with the passion we’re used to seeing after the last couple of weeks, where we weren’t what we normally.

“We got back to our passionate play, and I thought our seniors had the team ready to go. They were fired up, and I was pleased with the way we came out and executed.”

Trinity scored all its points in the first half while limiting Oak Forest to one touchdown in the second quarter. The Saints struck first when Peyton Young caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Scott Turner with 6:43 to go in the first.

Jake Winston added a touchdown for the Saints on a 26-yard reception with 9:01 to go in the second quarter. Sam Bourgeois tallied Oak Forest’s only touchdown on a 60-yard touchdown run with 6:26 left.

Winston caught his second touchdown pass of the night from 19 yards out with 4:31 to go before the half. Tanner Cage added a 6-yard touchdown run with 40 seconds before intermission.

Cage led the team in rushing with 68 yards on 11 attempts and one touchdown. Tip McKenzie added 37 yards on six carries.

Turner finish 9 of 14 in passing with 147 yards and three touchdowns. McKenzie was 1-for-1 with 36 yards passing. Jake Winston had two receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown, while McKenzie caught the ball twice for 88 yards.

Terrance Hunter and Carter Smith both recovered fumbles for the Saints.

Trinity’s defense gave up just 212 total yards, and King said he was pleased with all three facets of the game from his team.

“Everybody played well,” King said. “We were good on both sides of the ball, and special teams were outstanding. We were just really focused.

“They’re a 90-percent running team, so we just stacked the box and were able to keep them in check aside from one long run.”

Trinity (8-1) will return to district play next Friday when the Saints travel to Columbia Academy.
