Arrest nets drugs, $7K in cash

NATCHEZ — Adams County Metro Narcotics officers and sheriff’s deputies recovered a variety of drugs with a street value of $65,000, along with $7,789 in cash, from two men they arrested Friday morning.
Steven M. Woods, 30, 95 Steam Plant Road and Keimon C. Brice, 31, 2A Crown Court, were arrested at Woods’ property just before 10 a.m. Friday.
When law enforcement showed up at Woods’ Steam Plant Road residence, agent Weston Watts said Woods was relaxing on his couch with a 38-caliber Smith and Wesson resting on his chest.
“He sitting like a turtle laying in the sun,” Assistant Narcotics Commander Tom Borum said.
Brice ran out the back door of the house when he saw law enforcement officers, but he was chased and caught shortly.
Law enforcement seized a block of compressed powder cocaine, a crack “cookie,” which is approximately a quarter-ounce chunk of crack the size of a Chips Ahoy cookie, several individually packaged $20 crack “rocks,” two baby bottles filled with promethazine and codeine, a half an ounce of marijuana in a plastic bag, and four small scales, two 12 gauge shotguns and a 38-caliber pistol.
Metro Narcotics Commander David Lindsey said the drugs were all stored in different places around Woods’ house.
Woods and Brice will both be charged with felony possession with intent to distribute powder cocaine, crack cocaine, promethazine and codeine and marijuana. In addition, Brice will be charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Woods will be charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen weapon.
Woods and Brice will be arraigned Monday.
Lindsey said Wood and Brice are major distributors to the area.
Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said the arrest was made after two weeks of intensive investigation and a few months of gathering information.
In addition to the drugs and money, law enforcement also seized two flat screen TVs, four Mercedes tires and a microwave Mayfield said was used to cook the crack.
