Diversity needed in Natchez, Adams County

Published 12:01 am Sunday, November 25, 2007

I have heard in public or seen comments in the paper that the “blue haired ladies,” “blue bloods” or “select few power brokers” are running the city of Natchez, Adams County, the paper, etc!

Now, do you really believe that there is a small group who controls our elected officials, our newspaper, etc? If so, I would suggest that you take a hard look at future candidates for local political positions.

Readers take the newspaper to task on issues. The newspaper offers a chance to voice your opinion in their sections for “Letters to the Editor” and “Top of the Morning.”

Now think about it. I do not think the mayor, aldermen or the supervisors fit the three categories. Maybe, I am wrong, but please enlighten me in the comment section on the Web site.

We need diversity in the city and county. It is not about red, yellow, black or white. It is not about whether you are poor or rich. It is not about your religious beliefs. It is not about how intelligent you are.

We need diversity for us to have a great place to live. And yes, there are groups or people who try to exert influence for their causes. That’s not all bad, but each of us can do the same.
