The week of Thanksgiving is intended to remind us all to stop, relax and be thankful for the simplest things in life.

In today’s busy world, it’s difficult to know how many Americans actually use the holiday as our forefathers intended, but regardless the week brought much good news to our area.

Let’s review some of the good headlines from last week.

4 Natchez resident Barbara Murray is a role model for all of us. Though she’s fought cancer three times, the mother and grandmother faced Thanksgiving with a smile and hope for the future. We wish Murray and family the best in the year go come.

4 Another family with a reason to be thankful this year was that of Chase Charpentier of Ferriday. The 5-year-old gave his parents quite the scare earlier this year in a swimming pool accident where he nearly drowned.

A heroic rescue and a few months later and Chase is completely back to normal. It’s great to see this lively boy being a “handful” sometimes as his mother said.

4 Every year Thanksgiving morning at the Stewpot takes on a new style. The regular Stewpot staff is joined by a handful of other volunteers, many of who simply wake up and decide to help.

The Stewpot served approximately 325 people on Thanksgiving Day this year, and each meal taught the volunteers an important lesson about giving.

Our community is lucky to have a well-run agency there to help those less fortunate.

And since Thanksgiving is over, that only means one thing — Santa Claus is coming to town and he’s sure to bring good news.
