MENDENHALL — The Adams County football team hung with one of the top teams in MAIS Class AA for a quarter Friday night, but the Cougars of Simpson Academy ended up turning up the heat in the second quarter and cruising past the Rebels 40-0.

ACCS only trailed 3-0 at the end of one quarter, but Simpson scored 23 in the second to take a 26-0 lead into halftime.

The Cougars tacked on 14 more points in the third, and both teams went scoreless in the final frame to make the final score 40-0.

With the ACCS offense struggling, it was the defense that produced Friday night’s standouts.

Tristan Beach led the Rebels with eight tackles. Brandon Ross had seven tackles, Christopher Perry had six and Chris Carrell and Cody White each had five.

ACCS (1-7, 0-1) will travel to face Silliman next week in its last game outside of District 5-AA.

The Rebels finish their season with district games against Brookhaven Academy and Columbia Academy.
