VIDALIA — Qualifying for municipal elections in Concordia Parish will begin next week.
Qualifying for the Feb. 9 primary election will be Dec. 12-14 at the Clerk of Court’s office in the Concordia Parish Courthouse.
The general election will follow March 8.
Up for election are the mayor and aldermen positions in Vidalia, Ferriday and Clayton, Registrar of Voters Golda Ensminger said.
Voters in Vidalia and Clayton will also vote for chief of police.
Also on the ballot will be the presidential preference for the Republican and Democratic parties.
Democratic and Republican state central committee and parish executive committee elections are also slated for the primary.
Only those affiliated with the Democratic or Republican parties can vote in the primary for their party.
Those who wish to run for President as a Republican or Democrat must qualify in person at the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office in Baton Rouge.
The final date to register as an elector in Concordia Parish for the Feb. 9 election is Jan. 9, Ensminger said.
To register to vote, an elector must be able to prove age, identity and residency.
When registering at the Registrar of Voter’s office, a state-issued driver’s license, social security card and a third piece of identification, such as a utility bill with an address listed, are considered sufficient identification.
