Josh Tillman named Defensive Player of Year

MEADVILLE — After going 12-3 this season, the Franklin County Bulldogs earned their second straight trip back to the 3A State Championship final and in the process several players off the team earned several awards.
Franklin County senior defensive end Josh Tillman was recently named Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches. Tillman registered a school-record 20 sacks this season, and also gathered 101 tackles and recovered five fumbles.
“It’s a great honor,” said Tillman about the award. “One of my goals this year was to break our school sacks record and win this award at the beginning of the season. I did my best this year.”
Other Bulldogs making First Team All-State were junior Jamie Collins at quarterback, junior Jordan Hunt at linebacker, senior Carlos Johnson at linebacker, and senior Bo Tillman at defensive tackle.
Sophomore Bobby O’Quinn made Second Team All-State as an offensive lineman, while junior speedster Alex Smith made the team as a defensive back.
“It’s an honor to our program to receive such rewards,” said Bulldogs head coach Grady McCluskey. “Our guys really worked hard this season, and made some outstanding plays. I’m proud of them.”
As for All-Division selections, Jamie Collins was named Region 7-3A Offensive Player of the Year, while Bo Tillman was named Region 7-3A Defensive Player of the Year. Junior Jace Carlock was named Kicker of the Year.
1st Team All-District 7-3A: Bobby O’Quinn, Ryne Tutor, Jamie Collins, Alex Smith, Carlos Johnson, Jace Carlock, Jordan Hunt, Bo Tillman, and Josh Tillman.
2nd Team All-District 7-3A: Frank Hunt, Josey Carithers, Robert Wilson, Garcia Vaughn, and Jarvis King.
