FERRIDAY — Thirteen teams of fisherman braved the gray skies and cold winds on Saturday and took part in the Pick Your Lake Team Bass Fishing tournament.
The teams were allowed to fish at either Bruin, St. John, BRL Complex, 4-Rivers Complex, Concordia, Deerpark, Tew, Brushley, Wallace, Turkey Creek or the Larto Complex lakes.
After a day of fishing, the teams gathered back at Lakeview Lodge on Lake Concordia for the weigh-in.
The team of John Bruce and Danny Smith took home first place honors, catching five fish weighting a total of 17.38 pounds.
“We just threw a jig all day,” Bruce said of the team’s strategy. “We’re happy to win it.”
The pair fished on Lake Concordia and won the tournament rather easily.
The team of Junior Book and Dean Burnett came in second with a five-fish weight of 16.61 pounds while Robby Buckles and Jerry Boykin came in third place with a five-fish weight of 15.66 pounds.
Buzz Craft caught the big fish of the day, with one weighing in at 4.95 pounds.
Bruce, who also served as the tournament director, said he was pleased with the turnout and the fishing.
“We had some good sacks (of fish) brought up to the weigh-in today,” Bruce said. “Everyone had a good time out on the water.”
The tournament was not affiliated with any fishing organization, but instead was an open tournament available to all who wanted to get some fishing done on a Saturday.
“It was just a little team tournament,” Bruce said. “Just something to do on a Saturday.”
