No place for swimmers in Ferriday

Ferriday’s public swimming pool is about to evaporate like rain on a hot, tin roof.
And, given the state of the facility, that’s probably a good thing.
This week, Concordia Recreation District officials said the troubled pool likely has a bulldozer in its future.
The decision comes after last summer’s comedy of errors when the pool was opened and then closed and then opened and then closed again.
Ultimately, experts who looked at the pool determined it was no longer capable of being a safe, fun place for children to spend a summer afternoon.
Despite cries from the Ferriday mayor, the pool was closed and it needs to stay closed.
It’s sad that neither Natchez nor Ferriday leaders can make providing a public place to swim a priority.
Perhaps this election year, if enough residents make a big enough splash, leaders — or would-be leaders — will listen and find a way to make it happen.
In the meantime, maybe the missing front-end loader in Adams County — another example of government gone south — could be “found” long enough to help the good folks of Ferriday fill up the void that was once a public swimming pool.
