FAYETTE — Even though South Pike had more players wind up in the scoring column than Jefferson County, it still wasn’t enough to keep the Tigers from rolling along in Region 7-3A Tuesday night.

Kadon Day scored a game-high 27 points and Percy Turner had 26 points as the Tigers defeated the Eagles 72-60 to improve to 7-1 in region play despite the fact that they were the only two Jefferson County players to score in double figures.

However, the 53 combined points that those two scored was enough to help Jefferson County defeat a South Pike team that used a balanced scoring attack. The problem for the Eagles was that just one of their players scored in double figures, and that was Leslie Jones with 13 points.

Jefferson County (16-9 overall) set the tone for the game early by jumping out to a 19-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. South Pike had to play catch up the rest of the ball game, but was not successful in doing so.

Wilkinson County 55,

Franklin County 48

WOODVILLE — Kenny Harden scored a season-high 26 points and Corey Anthony had 16 points as the Wildcats held on for a seven-point win over the Bulldogs Tuesday night to stay in the hunt for the top seed in the Region 7-3A Tournament.

Wilkinson County (6-1 in region play) only led by two points over Franklin County at the end of the first quarter. But the Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 15-10 in the second quarter to take a seven-point halftime lead and then took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter.

After struggling offensively through the first three quarters, Franklin County scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, but its defense did make the stops on defense that it needed to to get back in the game.

Jamie Collins led the Bulldogs with 19 points while J. Hunt had 11 points and J. Hunt had 10 points.

Huntington 49, WCCA 41

WOODVILLE — The Rams were just one quarter away from taking a big win in MPSA District 6-A when, out of nowhere, the Hounds’ offense woke up as they rallied to take an improbable eight-point win Tuesday night.

WCCA (11-11, 3-3) led 8-5 at the end of the first quarter, 22-14 at halftime, and 28-21 at the end of the third quarter. What happened in the fourth quarter, however, was truly amazing.

Huntington (9-11, 4-2) scored 28 points in the final quarter while its defense held WCCA to just 13 points. Tyler Pere led the Hounds with 14 points. Kevin Brown had 10 points and Josh Lee added eight points.

Centreville 56, Central Private 51

BAKER, La. — Despite the effort of Central Private’s Josh Sides and Britt Myer, the Rebels couldn’t overcome an 11-point halftime deficit as they fell to the Tigers in a key MPSA District 5-AA game for both teams.

Centreville (11-7, 4-3) turned a two-point lead after one quarter of play into its double-digit lead at the half thanks to a 19-10 advantage in the second quarter. Central Private (5-2 in district play) cut the lead to five points at the end of the third quarter after outscoring the Tigers 16-10, but the Tigers wouldn’t let them get any closer.

Kyle Brown led Centreville with 19 points and Brad Jelks had 12 points. Sides led Central Private with 19 points and Myer had 18 points.
