WOODVILLE — The Woodville Main Street Association doesn’t proclaim to be above using a few duck calls to attract a crowd to its downtown streets.

But manager Polly Rosenblatt doesn’t think that will be necessary.

Instead, the town will cook up wild game, show off local art and carve out a canoe in a few weeks to get your attention.

The fourth annual Woodville Deer and Wildlife Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 on the courthouse square.

“Part of our job is to promote the downtown and help support local businesses,” Rosenblatt said of the association. “We tried to figure out a way to market and promote what we have here, which is abundance of natural resources.”

The goal was to attract outdoor lovers in a 150- to 200-mile radius.

But the festival isn’t just for hunters.

A juried art show will feature 22 artists. An additional 26 arts and crafts vendors will be selling wares. And a number of activities for children will be available.

Chefs will cook venison, wild hog, fowl and alligator in the morning, making it available for sale after 2 p.m. and after judging. A $5 tasting ticket will buy 10 samples.

Food vendors will fill hungry stomachs not in the mood for wild game.

Live music will include Robert Cage Blues, Veal Brothers Gospel, Lil Poochie, Donnell Sullivan, Wayon Mills Band and Mojo Mudd.
