Criminal activity seems to get worse with each passing year. Statistics may occasionally disagree, but from the person on the street’s perspective, criminals seem to be gaining ground daily.

Law enforcement officers are, for the most part, doing as much as they can to stop crime. They face limited government budgets and limited resources.

In most cases, what they really need are more eyes and ears in the community.

Thanks to several good citizens in the Duncan Park area of Natchez, police officers just received some much-needed, free help.

A newly formed Duncan Park Neighborhood Watch Program aims to curb crime in the area by simply putting all the neighbors on alert and having each one keep watchful eyes on the neighborhood.

The formation of such groups by people who are willing to step up and volunteer their time for a greater cause is exactly what our community needs more of if we’re ever to curb crime in the Miss-Lou.

Many thanks to the volunteers who started the program, and we wish them the best of luck in their endeavors.

We also hope the effort encourages others to get involved and take back their neighborhoods from criminals.
