VIDALIA — A woman involved in a nine-hour standoff who reportedly fired a gun at a Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy Aug. 24 was booked at the CPSO on attempted second-degree murder Friday and placed on house arrest.
CPSO public information officer Kathleen Stevens said Friday the Concordia Parish District Attorney’s office and Louisiana State Police worked together to file the charges against Elizabeth Bright, 49, 525 Holly St., of St. Joseph, La.
After Bright opened fire in August, a deputy shot her, and she was transported to a hospital and listed in critical condition shortly after the incident.
According to a press release from the Louisiana State Police, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Aug. 24 the CPSO received a 911 call from Bright who was screaming.
A deputy was dispatched to 227 Concordia Park Drive, and upon arrival he attempted to enter the residence and was immediately fired upon by Bright, state police said.
After Bright’s shots, the deputy fired his weapon back at her, striking her in the chest.
Bright was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center.
Bright was released on recognizance from jail following her booking Friday.
An armed man at the scene with Bright, Jimmy Williams, 90, who lived at the residence where the incident occurred, turned himself in to the CPSO on the night of the incident.
After nine hours of the stand off involving the Vidalia Police Department, CPSO and a Special Response Team, law enforcement discovered no one in the house.
Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell said after the incident he believed Williams escaped the house during a 10 to 15 minute window after the deputy shot Bright.
Williams, 90, 227 Concordia Park Drive, Vidalia, was booked that night on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm upon a peace officer.
