NATCHEZ — A small portion of the still-new Natchez Trails Project is undergoing reconstructive surgery already. But it’s a routine procedure, Natchez City Engineer David Gardner said.
Gardner said the sidewalk that cuts from Broadway to Canal Street was inspected by the city and found to be deficient. The contractor of the work, Camo Construction Company, is repairing the sidewalk.
Gardner said the repair is typical during a job as large as the Natchez Trails Project.
“You’re going to have some places that crack and deteriorate,” he said. “We’re going in there and making the repairs so we can have a long-lasting product.”
He said the city inspects work before a construction company’s contract expires and prepares a punch list of items that need repair before the project is completed. Gardner said the construction company should finish the repairs within the next three or four days.
Gardner said there are also sections of sidewalk on other streets, including Martin Luther King Jr. Street, being taken up. He said Telepak is installing fiber optic cables and will replace the sidewalk once the cables are in place.
