MEADVILLE — Had Franklin County’s MHSAA Region 7-3A game against Hazlehurst gone the full seven innings, Courtney Hauer would have had a chance to hit for the cycle.

Instead, Hauer ended up going 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple as the Lady Bulldogs easily defeated the Lady Indians 11-0 in five innings Tuesday night to remain undefeated in region play.

Mildred Starks had another strong outing on the mound for Franklin County as she allowed just three hits in a complete-game win. The Lady Bulldogs gave her plenty of run support by jumping out to a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.

“The girls came out pretty pumped up. They played solid on defense. We got key hits with runners on base,” head coach Dana Smith said. “Once again, Mildred did a good job on the mound for us.”

Five more runs came across for the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the second inning to give them a 9-0 advantage. They scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and Mildred Starks kept Hazlehurst off the scoreboard in the top of the fifth to end the game by way of the 10-run rule.

Nicole White had a double and went 2-for-3 for Franklin County (12-4, 4-0) and Jamecia Starks also had a double. The Lady Bulldogs were also aided by five Hazlehurst errors.

“We didn’t have that many hits, but the ones we hit we scored runs off of,” Smith said. “We just have to stay focused and finish.”

Franklin County continues Region 7-3A action on Thursday when it plays at Crystal Springs with the varsity game at 4:30 p.m.

WCCA 6, Tallulah Academy 4

WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County Christian Academy finished its 2011 season on a positive note as the Lady Rams defeated the Tallulah Academy Lady Trojans in their MAIS District 6-A finale Tuesday night.

No other information on the game, including WCCA’s final overall and district records, were available. Efforts to reach Lady Rams head coach Brandi McDaniel for statistics and comments were unsuccessful.

Seven seniors on WCCA’s team were honored before the varsity game started — shortstop/pitcher Bethany Fletcher, catcher/first baseman Taylor Littleton, third baseman Sarah Hendry, shortstop/pitcher Caroline Walker, left fielder Cameron Herrington, right fielder Julia Pace and Samantha Gentry (no position given on the team’s roster).

With both Amite School Center and Tensas Academy already having secured berths in the MAIS Class A South State Tournament, WCCA and Tallulah Academy were playing each other for pride Tuesday night.

Centreville games postponed

CENTREVILLE — Centreville Academy was scheduled to have two varsity games early this week in preparation for the upcoming MAIS Class AA South State Tournament.

However, one game was postponed due to weather and the other was postponed because of a trustees’ meeting.

The Lady Tigers’ game against Trinity Episcopal that was supposed to take place on Monday night was rained out and has been rescheduled for next Tuesday — one day after the conclusion of the South State Tournament. It will also be senior night. The junior varsity gets under way at 6 p.m. and it will be followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

Centreville’s junior varsity and varsity games at Columbia Academy that were scheduled for Tuesday afternoon were postponed due to the trustees’ meeting. Head coach Mark Mann said because of the meeting, no other activities could take place. And that means the Lady Tigers’ varsity team will take on the varsity Lady Cougars Thursday at 5:30 p.m. There will be no junior varsity game that day.
