WOODVILLE — Led by the pitching of Luke Brumfield as well as some timely hitting by T.J. Johnson and Dustin Carroll, the ACCS Rebels picked up their first win of the season with a 5-1 win over the WCCA Rams Tuesday night.
Brumfield went the distance, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven batters. Johnson led the Rebels at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double and Carroll also went 2-for-3.
ACCS (1-1) scored two runs in the top of the first inning, which was enough run support for Brumfield to work with. However, the Rebels weren’t done as they added two run in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the seventh.
WCCA (2-1) had three doubles among its four hits, but Brumfield and the defense behind him made sure the Rams were not able to take advantage of them. Their only run occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brandon Simon went 2-for-2 and Brennan Bush had a double.

JACKSON — The Tigers used back-to-back eight-run innings to rally for a big win over the Bulldogs in five innings Tuesday night in the Division 6-5A opener for both teams.
Natchez High (1-3, 0-1) got off to a good start by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead after an inning and a half before Jim Hill took advantage of their youth and inexperience.
The Tigers scored eight runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good and added eight more runs in the bottom of the third to make it a 16-4 game. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the fourth before the Tigers scored the game’s final five runs.
“We made a lot of freshman errors. That was our Achilles heel,” Natchez High head coach Charlie Williams said. “We made too many freshman mistakes.”
