LORMAN — Services for Bobbie Powell Fells, 58, of Lorman, who died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, will be at noon Sunday at Alcorn State University Oakland Memorial Chapel.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Sunday with Omega service at 11 a.m., conducted by Alcorn Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Bobbie was born Aug. 18, 1953, the daughter of Mertis B. Powell. She was the second sibling of 11 children.
She was baptized at Old Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. C.L. Jones. She was a vital and active member in her church as well as community organizations, serving in a number of capacities such as Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church choir president, assistant church clerk, Love and Honor Society member, Pastor’s Aide Service secretary, Jefferson County Woman’s Auxiliary, Waterloo Missionary Baptist Church senior choir and Medgar Evers Housing Development president and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Bobbie’s educational background included AA Childhood Development, Hinds Community College, MSLS Library Science, Atlanta University, Mississippi Guidance Education, Alcorn State University, Mississippi Social Science Education, Alcorn State University, BS Social Science, Alcorn State University, AA Social Science and Saints Junior College. She was currently employed by Alcorn State University as acqusitions librarian/director of technical services/assistant professor and had been employed by Alcorn for 31 years.
Survivors include a devoted husband, Dale Fells; her mother of West; three children, David Powell and wife, Stephanie, of Lexington, Gailmon Fells of Lorman and Shantel Davis and husband, Michael, of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Linda Smith and husband, Ezell, of Lexington, Helen Roberson and husband, Roger, of Durant and Lillie G. Perkins and husband, Claude, of Waterloo, Iowa; seven brothers, Nathaniel Powell and wife, Cynthia, Willie and Norman Powell, Roy Powell and wife, Irma Jean, James Powell and wife, Lawanda, all of Lexington, Lester Powell and wife, Marshelle, of West and Robert Powell of Syrma, Ga.; mother-in-law, Ada Fells of Lorman; three aunts, Elosise Powell of West, Marie Byrd of Vicksburg and Lucille Fells of Lorman; five sisters-in-law, Velma Chambers of Kansas City, Mo., Sadie Fells and Kisia Fells and husband, John, all of Chicago, and Emily Sue Robinson and Evelyn Fells, both of Lorman; one brother-in-law, Wilford Fells and wife, Annie, of Lorman; seven grandchildren who were also the love of her life, Ashley Brown, Gailronate Fells, Davian Powell, Ga’nayia Fells and Myhlan, Mykeldren and Myah Davis; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
