Pilgrimage welcomes in good news

Natchez shines the brightest each year during Spring Pilgrimage.
Yards are groomed, hoop skirts are out and the flowers soon will be in full bloom. Saturday’s start of Pilgrimage marked a month and a half of good news, we know, but we had more than a few good headlines last week.
Let’s review some of last week’s good headlines.
4The state legislators representing Adams County came to town Monday to give local citizens an update on the big issues this year. These men owe it to us to attend such legislative breakfasts, and we are glad the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce hosted the event.
4The sixth-graders at Monterey High School are a tech-savvy bunch. The class is fully equipped with Apple iBooks, courtesy of a state grant. These students are learning in a modern way, and should be a model for all Miss-Lou classrooms.
4Stan Owens, a longtime Natchez fireman, will be taking on a new job next week. Owens was chosen by the Adams County Board of Supervisors to be the director of emergency management for the county. Owens has proved his commitment to public service with the fire department, and we know we’ll be in good hands with him behind the wheel in case of a disaster.
Spring is coming soon, and the tourists in town for Pilgrimage surely will bring their own share of good news with them.
