FERRIDAY — The boil-water notice in effect for several weeks in Ferriday was lifted Wednesday.

The water from the Ferriday water plant has been tested and found to be safe to drink.

Mayor Glen McGlothin also said the town’s water plant is producing plenty of water now and residents no longer need to go out of their way to conserve water.

The town had asked residents to avoid tasks like car washing and yard watering in the days after a filter at the water plant blew out.

That filter has been replaced and the new part is working properly.

Water buffaloes — tanks holding clean drinking water — will remain in town for approximately 10 days, McGlothin said, while crews work to replace the plant’s second water filter.

McGlothin said he anticipates no problems during that time, but wants to err on the side of caution.
