Downed power lines close John R. Junkin

NATCHEZ — A section of John R. Junkin Drive was closed to traffic for approximately eight hours Tuesday after a large tree fell on power lines near the Glenwood Subdivision.
Entergy crews worked from approximately 11 a.m. until after 7:30 p.m. to replace two fallen poles and restore power. Their trucks blocked one lane of traffic most of the day.
All but 54 Entergy customers had power restored early in the day though, Supervisor Travis Leggett said.
“We did some switching of a downed wire,” he said. “The main line was out for 30 or 35 minutes.”
Those customers closest to the fallen tree — ones living in Glenwood Subdivision or along John R. Junkin — were the last to receive power again.
All local crews and extra workers from Gloster were at the site all day, Leggett said.
“When something like that happens we hit it hard to get it fixed fast.”
The tree that fell was from beyond the standard right-of-way area that Entergy frequently trims to avoid such outages, he said.
Traffic was routed down Lower Woodville Road and Homochitto Street during the cleanup, Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
