BUNKIE, La. — Vidalia pitcher Brittany Whittington kept the Lady Vikings in the game until their offense finally gave her the run support she needed as they rallied to defeat the Bunkie Lady Panthers 3-1 Monday afternoon in District 3-3A action.

Whittington struck out six, allowed just three hits and walked three in a complete-game performance, but it looked for a while that it would be all for naught as Bunkie took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

But the Lady Vikings (10-5, 3-0) rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Alaina Burns led off with a double and moved to third base on a single by Chelsie Mack, who went to second on the throw. Chelsea Warren laid down a squeeze bunt that scored Burns to tie the game at 1-1.

With the Lady Panthers trying to keep Burns from scoring, Mack moved over to third and Warren went to second. Then Kassi Randall brought in Mack with a fielder’s choice and Eryn Seacrest knocked in Warren with a fielder’s choice to give the Lady Vikings the lead for good.

Franklin County 12, St. Aloysius 4

VICKSBURG — Just when it looked like St. Aloysius was back in the game against Franklin County, the Lady Bulldogs responded with five unanswered runs as they defeated the Lady Flashes Monday afternoon.

Franklin County (9-4) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but St. Aloysius took advantage of a few walks by starting pitcher Kacey Smith and some timely hits to score three runs in the bottom of the first.

The Lady Bulldogs then put the game out of reach with four runs in the top of the second inning and added another run in the top of the fourth that gave them a commanding 9-3 lead.

Smith settled down and allowed no runs in the second, third and fourth innings. She struck out five in four innings before being relieved by Melissa McFarland, who struck out four, walked none and allowed just one run in three innings.

Franklin County ended up with 23 hits in the game, with nine players having at least two hits. Monea Cameron went 4-for-5 while Kristin Oglesby went 3-for-5 with a double, Heather Havard was 2-for-4 with a double and Morgan Knapp went 2-for-5 with a triple.
