Celebrate Easter with a bunny downtown
Published 12:22 am Wednesday, March 19, 2008
The Downtown Development Association has created an event for all members of the family on Easter Sunday, March 23, beginning at noon on the bluff.
We’ll have picnicking on the bluff — with picnics to go available from Vaughan’s Café & Bakery and Soul Heaven, or you can eat at any number of downtown restaurants featuring special Easter Bonnet Promenade Brunches.
Orders to Vaughan’s or Soul Heaven must be called in by Friday.
There will also be an Easter bonnet contest — with great prizes — and categories for children, babies, pets and adults. Come out to show off your bonnets. Following the bonnet contest is an Easter bonnet promenade — led by the Easter bunny. The promenade will start at Broadway and Franklin — take a right on Commerce Street another right on Main — and back to the bluff. Winners of the bonnet contest will ride in carriages in the Promenade — courtesy of Southern Carriage.
The Easter egg hunt begins around 2:30 p.m. to the left of the gazebo — and you know the kids will love that. From 3 to 4 p.m. will be a time for families to stroll along the bluff — enjoy the calliope music (courtesy of Burnley Cook) and watch artists creating works right before your eyes along the sidewalk just like they do in Jackson Square and Paris.
There will be activities for children starting at noon — like a clown, a storyteller, a stilt walker and pictures with the Easter bunny. Please come out and join us for an afternoon of good old fashioned family fun. If you can’t make all of it — come for the parts you can.
