ST. JOSEPH, La. — After a couple of tough losses in district play recently, the Huntington Hounds got back in the thick of things in MPSA District 6-A with a sweep of Tensas Academy.

The first game was the completion of a suspended game that was played on March 10 at Huntington, but was called due to inclement weather. The Hounds were leading that game 4-1 after four innings of play. Play resumed Tuesday afternoon and they rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 win over the Chiefs.

Tensas Academy got back in this game thanks to a pair of doubles by R. Neuroth and a double by J.T. James. The Chiefs scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and one in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.

Huntington retook the lead with one run in the bottom of the sixth, only to see Tensas tie the game in the top of the seventh. Then with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Joey Roberts singled in Landon Willard for the game-winning run.

Jordan Wilson got the win for the Hounds on the mound as he allowed just four hits. Josh Lee had a double and Willard went 2-for-3.

The second game was a unique one indeed. After three innings of play, the score was tied at 0-0. Then all of a sudden, both teams’ offenses woke up in a big way.

The Chiefs used back-to-back four-run rallies to take an 8-5 lead over the Hounds before Jordan Wilson’s three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning tied the game at 8-8 and changed the complexion of the game.

Huntington (8-9, 3-2) put the game out of reach with a seven-run rally in the top of the seventh inning. Jody Cottongin scored the go-ahead run on a squeeze play.

Roberts led the Hounds’ 16-hit attack by going a perfect 5-for-5. Phillip Washington went 3-for-4 and winning pitcher Josh Lee was 3-for-5 with a double. Austin Emfinger had a triple while Neuroth, K. Lee and D. Leake each had a double for the Chiefs.

Trinity Episcopal 16, River Oaks 2

MONROE, La. — Matt Barnes hit two home runs and Jordan Dossett had a pair of doubles as the Saints bounced back from Monday night’s loss at home to WCCA by trouncing the Mustangs Tuesday night in an MPSA District 3-AA game.

Trinity Episcopal needed only five innings to take care of River Oaks to improve to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in district play. Barnes was also the winning pitcher as he gave up two runs on five hits.

The Saints led 4-1 after one inning of play and then scored eight runs in the top of the second inning for a 12-1 lead. But unlike what happened 24 hours earlier when WCCA rallied from a 9-2 deficit, the Saints made sure that they would not happen against the Mustangs.

Barnes’ first home run of the game was a three-run shot in the top of the second. He added a solo home run to lead off the top of the fifth inning. Trinity added one run in the top of the third and three in the top of the fifth.

Clint Easom went 4-for-5 with a double and Wells Middleton was 3-for-3 with a double for Trinity, which finished with 16 hits in the game. Aaron Aitken led River Oaks at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a triple.

Monterey 17, Epps 0

MONTEREY, La. — Beau Shivley pitched a no-hitter and struck out four on the mound as the Wolves opened up District 3-B action with a win over the Panthers in just three innings Tuesday afternoon.

Shivley also went 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs batted in for Monterey, which scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning and five more runs in the bottom of the second.

Monterey (5-8, 1-0) also took advantage of 14 walks by Epps’ pitchers as well as two errors. Ross Lipsey had a double for the Wolves.

WCCA 10, Prentiss Christian 0

WOODVILLE — Hayden Holden pitched a one-hitter and George Davis hit an inside-the-park home run as the Rams defeated the Saints Tuesday night in six innings by way of the 10-run rule.

Any concerns about a letdown by WCCA (11-6) after its dramatic come-from-behind win over Trinity Episcopal Monday night quickly vanished when the Rams scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Rams added three runs in the bottom of the third inning and one in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-0 lead. They ended the game a bit early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Davis went 2-for-3, as did Brennan Bush, who had a double, and Sutton Olive.

Vidalia 11, Buckeye 6

BUCKEYE, La. — Vidalia used a six-run rally in the top of the fourth inning to break a tie ball game after three innings to defeat the Panthers Tuesday afternoon in District 3-3A action.

Both Vidalia (8-5, 2-1) and Buckeye scored one run in the second inning and three runs in the third inning. But the Vikings pulled away in their half of the fourth inning and never looked back.

Mason Ozburn went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, winning pitcher Jake DeWeese was 2-for-3 with a double and Beau Doughty was 3-for-3 for Vidalia, which collected 13 hits in the game. Jacob Sinclair went 3-for-4 with a double and Clint white was 2-for-3 with a double for Buckeye.

Cathedral 16, Bogue Chitto 1

BOGUE CHITTO — Preston Edwards hit a grand-slam home run during Cathedral’s 13-run fourth inning as the Green Wave defeated the Bobcats in five innings Tuesday night in a Region 8-1A game.

Cathedral was only up 2-0 at the end of the third inning before pulling away in the top of the fourth inning. The Green Wave had just four hits in the game, but they also took advantage of three Bogue Chitto errors as well as a lot of walks.

Edwards had two of their hits and Tyler Ballard had a double. Edwards was also the winning pitcher as he gave up just one hit in five innings. Cathedral (9-2, 5-0) will host Bogue Chitto on Thursday at Chester Willis Field.
