FERRIDAY — Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy John Mott was killed Sunday night in a two-vehicle accident near Lake Concordia and a Clayton man faces vehicular homicide charges in connection with the wreck.

Mott, 41, was riding on a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle when the accident occurred.

Joseph L. Drummer, 31, was driving eastbound in his 1991 Chevrolet pickup on Louisiana 568 when he attempted to turn left onto Louisiana 900, colliding with the westbound Mott.

Neither Drummer, nor his passenger, Shawn McCarty, 32, of Vidalia, were injured, a Louisiana State Police release said.

Mott, a father and family man, was a special part of the CPSO team, Public Information Officer Kathleen Stevens said.

“He always had time to pop his head in my area and say hello,” she said. “He was a hard worker who was usually out on the road.

“He was very devoted to his children.”

Louisiana State Police, and local authorities, responded to the accident, which occurred between 7 and 7:30 p.m.

Mott was wearing a motorcycle helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mott, who has worked for the CPSO since 2007, had previous law enforcement experience in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Drummer was charged with vehicular homicide, DWI-third offense, improper left turn, driving under suspension, open container and possession of marijuana. McCarty was charged with possession of marijuana.

Both were booked into the Concordia Parish Jail. Drummer was detained without bond Monday, while McCarty’s bond was set at $700.
