Filters installed, water tests ongoing

FERRIDAY — New filters at the Ferriday water plant are running smoothly, but a boil-water notice has not yet been lifted.
Mayor Glen McGlothin said inspectors did tests on the water Friday and will wait until early next week to lift the boil-water order.
“They just want to be cautious,” McGlothin said. “They are brand new filters.”
The filters, which were installed last weekend, are functioning properly, producing plenty of water, he said.
The new filters were ordered after the existing ones stopped functioning properly two weeks ago, leaving Ferriday residents with intermitted water outages for a full week.
McGlothin said he was hopeful the boil-order would be lifted by Tuesday.
The water is safe to bathe in, but should be boiled before drinking. Water buffalos are still stationed around town for those seeking clean water.
