NATCHEZ — Children at T.M. Jennings Little League were given a treat Tuesday when the son of former Major League Baseball home run record holder Roger Maris showed up to conduct a clinic.
Keven Maris and former North Natchez High coach Bobby Hill, who coach at a high school in Gainsville, Fla., arrived to give a baseball clinic to the youngsters aged 5-12 that participate in the baseball league.
“It was very exciting for the kids,” T.M. Jennigs president Eric Fry said. “It was a very big thing for our league.”
Roger Maris swatted 61 homers in 1961 to break Babe Ruth’s single-season record. Maris’ record stood until 1998 when Mark McGuire hit 70 home runs.
