The Natchez Association of Letter Carriers in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service collected gifts of non-perishable food items from you, their postal patrons.

Once again this annual Stamp Out Hunger project was an overwhelming success.

Every individual contribution added up to more than 7,000 pounds of food left by mailboxes on Saturday, May 8.

Every mail carrier picked up food left on his or her route as the mail was delivered.

This successful food collection and disbursement made it a red-letter day for those who depend on food services provided by the Stewpot, the Sunshine Shelter, Kyle’s House and the Guardian Shelter.

The large amount of food each received was needed by them to continue their work of helping those who needed help with every day meals. For instance, at the Stewpot, empty shelves were filled.

As each mail carrier vehicle returned to the post office, the food items were unloaded and divided between the three agencies who carried them to their respective locations.

Every letter carrier was pleased and proud of what each had done, as well they should have been.

Each bragged about the people on their route and their concern for others and wished them thanks for caring.

It was a day off blessings for the letter carriers, those who gave, and those who would receive.
