SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — D.J. Williams, the freshman quarterback and son of Grambling coach Doug Williams, made his collegiate debut Saturday and led the Tigers to a 21-14 victory over Alcorn State in the Port City Classic in Independence Bowl Stadium.

After Alcorn scored the game’s first touchdown on a 53-yard scoring pass from Brandon Bridge to Terrance Lewis, Grambling scored touchdowns in each of the next three quarters, then held on to win. Williams completed 16 of 24 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns, one apiece to Mario Louis and Bakari Maxwell.

Running back Kenneth Batiste ran for 83 yards and Grambling’s other touchdown. When Bridge rushed for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, it cut Grambling’s lead to 21-14. But the Tigers held on to win and make the coach’s son’s debut a memorable one.
