NATCHEZ — Despite not being able to birdie three of the four par-3 holes Thursday afternoon, the Lakeside Ford team of William Pugh, Jordan Farmer, Henry Farmer and Christian Krueger was able to win the 2008 Miss-Lou LSU Alumni Golf Tournament.

The Pugh-Farmer-Farmer-Krueger team used eagles on No. 5 and No. 18 to shoot a round of 14-under-par 58 at Beau Pré Country Club to take first place on a scorecard playoff. The wining team also had 10 birdies and six pars.

“We hit the ball pretty good and we made some putts,” Jordan Farmer said. “William made some real good putts. Drove the ball well. I drove it as good as I can. We kept hitting greens and kept making putts.”

Even though the wind was gusting at time over 30 miles per hour during the day, Farmer said it wasn’t that much of a factor.

Taking second place with a round of 58 was the team of Dr. Blane Mire, Dr. Ed Daly, Dan Thibodeaux and Al Conn, who replaced Tom Graning.

“We just had a lot of fun. This is about raising scholarships for the LSU Alumni Association that we give out each year,” Mire said.

Mire added that this event, a four-person scramble, brings together the Louisiana side and the Mississippi side of the association.

As for their round, Mire said, “I had a natural eagle myself on No. 5. We had 12 birdies. The weather was just great. It’s always surprising when you have a good score in a scramble. There were a lot of good golfers out here today.”

Two teams tied for third place with rounds of 12-under-par 60. One of those was the last team to finish its round – an hour and a half after the first team was done. That was the team of Bradley Harrison, Mitch Kimble, G. Wilcox, Phillip Letard and Rusty Marks.

The other team that carded a 60 was the Cash Express team of Craig Jackson, Ronnie Russell, Michael Burley and Danny Parks.
