Summer is almost here and a new batch of graduates is making their way into the real world. This time of year is always exciting for our students and their families.
But the good news last week radiated beyond the smiling faces of tomorrow’s leaders. Let’s review some of the good headlines the week brought us.
County officials said they feel the final signatures on the Rentech land deal are coming soon. Though nothing is final, it’s great to hear that things are getting closer. Delays pushed the deal back a bit a few months ago, but we have faith things will turn out right in the end.
Ingenuity and an ear for good tunes has hopefully started a new Adams County tradition. Fiddle player Robert Gray dreamed up the idea of a fiddle competition at Historic Jefferson College last year. Saturday, his dream became a reality and there wasn’t a still foot in the house. Few people can resist some good old fiddle tunes, and we hope this kind of good clean fun can stick around a while.
Ferriday High School student Amanda Moreno is trying to fundraise her way to Washington, D.C. The sophomore earned a right to go to the national Young Academic Leaders Conference based on her grades and her principal’s nomination. Moreno should be proud of her work, and the mere invitation.
The Natchez schools will have graduation ceremonies this week, and then, the days of summer officially arrive and the fun begins.
