NATCHEZ — No arrests have been made in a Saturday night murder, but police are interviewing witnesses and potential suspects, Chief Mike Mullins said.
Walter Washington, 25, 220 Oakland Drive, died as the result of an apparent gunshot wound to the chest in a car. The shooting occurred in the Natchez Mall parking lot.
Mullins said there is no evidence that anyone else besides Washington was shot in the incident. Washington was with the driver of the car in which he was found shot. The driver and Washington reportedly ran, leaving a trail of blood across the mall parking lot.
While Mullins would not say how many shots were fired from what police believe was a handgun, he did say there were more than three shots fired.
The shooting occurred at 8:56 p.m., just minutes before the mall closed.
The shooting is connected to a previous shooting, Mullins said, but disclosing those details would interfere with the investigation.
